About the Museum... Founded in 1970 by the La Porte City FFA, the FFA
Historical and Ag Museum was originally located in a historic building
that housed the town’s fire station and jail house. The museum quickly
outgrew that site and in 2001, the museum expanded to a Main Street
location. This current site has more than 8000 square feet of display
space for exhibits that are changed each year. The museum features
exhibits that give personal perspectives of national events, as well as,
everyday life. The museum continues to earn its reputation for
educational and innovative exhibits that are enjoyed by guests of all
ages.
We are currently restoring the original museum building and developing
the site with the addition of a late 1800s pioneer log cabin. When fully
restored, the fire station, jail house and log cabin will be added to
the museum complex.
2011 Exhibit Theme... The 2011 Museum Theme is "The Personal
Face of War" - Join us to explore how ordinary Iowans rose to the call
of duty to serve their nation! (This exhibit was funded in part by Iowa
Humanities Grant)
